Dogs with long, thick fur may need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks, while dogs with short or fine hair may only need to go every 8-12 weeks. It's important to keep up with your dog's grooming program as if left too long, their hair may become matted and cause irritation or infection and need to be shaven.

Barking, howling, and whining can be common behavioral problems with dogs to grooming attempts. These fear based behaviors, much like in people, are volatile and can also lead to the other problem behaviors such as running away or aggression.

Many pets react badly at the groomer's because they are not used to the setting, strange people or the loud noises of hoses, clippers and fans. If you socialize your pet more frequently, however, they will be accustomed to diversity and may not be as bothered or react as poorly.
